Rainy Day Moving Blues – Tips from an experienced mover
It is hard to plan a move in of itself, when you have to take into consideration spring time storms, it can become overwhelming. Relax. MyTee Movers DOES work on rainy days. The show must go on, it will just require some extra props!
1. Hopefully you are all packed and ready to go when the crew arrives for the walk-through! Now it’s time to put those extra cardboard boxes to use! Tape extra cardboard boxes to the floors inside any entryways. The cardboard will get soggy and start to come apart, just replace with more cardboard.
2. We advised you to rent those moving pads/blankets from your truck provider, remember? You can never have enough and they rent them by the dozen. Moving blankets can be used to wrap furniture up in, then secured with wrap to provide water proof protection. Depending on how much time you are willing to pay for your moving labor crew, this is something you can help with either before the crews arrival, or while they are there. Just remember when you get where you are going to remove the wrap and pads right away.
3. If you are or have people helping in addition to your crew, discuss with your crew lead the option of having your people be either the inside helpers or outside helpers. As a result, we avoid tracking water and mud through the home.
4. Park the back of the truck as close to the loading or unloading zone as possible. This one seems like common sense, but far too often we have clients who worry that a 26 foot truck is going to damage their driveway so they park at the end. Not only is this unsafe for the crew (more wear and tear on their bodies), but it’s more costly as all those steps take more time, and your items have further to travel and chance to get wet on rainy days.
5. Extra large trash bags are your new BFF! They can be wrapped around stacks of boxes so the boxes don’t get soggy, or the items inside!
6. What about our mattresses? Even on sunny day moves, we recommend mattress bags. Your mattress is your sanction place. Do you want it dragged down the stairs or loaded up against lord knows what in the truck without protection? Mattress bags come in all sizes and are available at truck rental locations.
7. Have lots of towels on hand for people to use to dry items off, their hands off, their face, etc..
8. Patience! While we are professional who do moves every day all year round, weather does affect us too. We will need to dry off, change our shoes when they get soaked, take short breaks during torrential rain, focus on packing the truck with what has been brought out thus far, or focus on staging things in the house closer to the door, so when the rain let’s up, we are ready to roll again quickly. Have patience and understanding that you have hired a reliable, dependable crew who is there to ensure your satisfaction.
